Magnificent game music live!

I am a regular metal head and perhaps because of that I also enjoy classic music. Since I am also a gamer I had to go to Play! A Video Game Symphony in Lillestrøm, Norway last Friday. It was truly an amazing experience to hear some of my favorite game themes performed live by the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and Oslo Philharmonic Choir.

Memories of old came back when pictures from The Last Ninja filled the screens accompanied with the dramatic theme. And the themes from The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind and Oblivion beckoned me back to the lands of Tamriel.

I must also mention the drummer Rony Barrak who totally owned the show with his amazing skills at the Darabouka. With only one drum and a couple of cymbals he performed a drum solo like I never heard before. Respect, man!

Update: Someone filmed the Final Fantasy theme. Watch it at YouTube.

Can the Wii get more people into golf and other sports?

If you are talking about tiger woods 09 then most certainly not. Although an impressive game on the Xbox 360 and PS3, I say impressive, that of course goes to people who enjoy playing a golf game over a shooter. However even I will be purchasing the new Tiger Woods 10. Why on earth would I bother to do this? It’s certainly not because I’m saving money on electric golf trolleys that’s for sure. The great Nintendo motion sensing technolgy wasn't as great as it was expected to be and although great for kids it does get in the way of devlopers making half decent games for it. With the invention of the MotionPlus attachment for the Wii remote the games wil actually respond in the way that they should which means instead of disappointing fans with numerous failing games Nintendo might actually be able to get half decent devlopers behind them to make fairly decent games that can use the technology properly.

When the weather is grim and there is no way that you are going to be able to get out and play on the local course all you have to do is turn the Wii on and you can get going without even having to brave any of the weather. You get to feel al the stress of a real golfer by deciding on what club to choose, what the wind direction is and how hard you actually have to hit the ball.

The new game which is due out later this year will sell more than than last years edition that much is certain. Many people who really cant play the sport at all like myself wil find that Tiger Woods makes golf a lot easier and even if you do continue to fail at least you are in the home enviroment and not the middle of a packed golf course where everyone can see you. A great bonus to having this game is that you can swear and shout as loud as you want without the worry of someone kicking you of the course for being too loud! A few years ago I helped out the greenkeepers at the local golf course and I will say there is no way playing golf on the Wii will beat watching people try to play on the course and fail miserably, however it could improve things that can help your game like the way you swing as well as hand eye co-ordination.
The best thing of all is that you no longer have to charge golf batteries up, just walk into the room, pick up the remote and have a game!

Welcome to the world of Xbox 360–the gaming world’s most powerful, innovative, and advanced platform ever! Since its unveiling on MTV on May 12, 2005, Xbox 360 has taken the world by storm. Preceded by the much-hyped Xbox, this phenomenal gaming platform is the second video game console produced by Microsoft The console completely sold out when it was released in all regions except for Japan.

The Xbox 360 platform was developed in cooperation with IBM, ATI, and SIS, and according to Microsoft, has sold over 22 million units worldwide as of September 30, 2008. The Xbox 360 is available in three console configurations: the “Arcade”, the “Pro or Premium”, and the “Elite.” Each of these consoles comes complete with its own collection of Xbox 360 accessories, including wired and wireless controllers, faceplates for customization, headsets for chatting, webcams for video chatting, Gamercize and dance mats for exercise, three different sizes of memory cards, as well as three sizes of hard drives–120GB, 60GB, and 20GB–each of which are designed to match the console.

With a myriad of Xbox 360 peripherals available on the market, and in a wide variety of styles colors and configurations, Xbox gamers will have their hands full, building the perfect gaming system. Here are just a few of the top categories of Xbox 360 accessories along with their descriptions:

* Consoles

The console is unquestionably the heart, soul and brains of the Xbox gaming system. With a slim, ergonomic design, the Xbox 360 console looks great in either a vertical or horizonal placement position. The console is the Xbox component into which nearly all the other accessories are connected. The device measures 3.3″ x 12.2″ x 10.2″ and weighs just over 7-and-a-half pounds. It is powered from a custom IBM PowerPC-based CPU having 3 symmetrical cores running at 3.2 GHz each. In addition, the console includes a custom ATI graphics processor with 10MB of embedded DRAM, a 48-way parallel floating-point dynamically-scheduled shader pipelines and unified shader architecture (Or, enough power for the Xbox 360 system to draw five-hundred million triangles per second.) This is easily enough power to allow necessary for fantastic-looking games in standard TV definition, made even more incredible with its support for HDTV 1080i TVs. (Even the 16:9 widescreen format is supported.) The Xbox 360 console also utilizes a 12x dual-layer DVD-ROM drive, allowing for play of both games and progressive-scan DVD movies. For media storage and game-saving, gamers can choose between the upgradeable and detachable 20GB drive, or a separately sold 64MB flash memory unit. As well as storing files, the hard drive also makes the Xbox 360 backward-compatible with some of the existing game library for the Xbox.

* Controllers

The hand-held Xbox 360 controller allows gamers to access and navigate any and all on-screen activities. With its boomerang shape, the controller is iconic of the Batman symbol. The Xbox 360 controller fits very comfortably in both hands, and its ergonomic design provides two analog pressure-point triggers and vibration feedback motors, a left and right should button and an eight-way directional pad. Wired and wireless models of the controller are available. The wired controller comes with a 9-foot break-away controller cable. At the center of the controller, there is a glowing Xbox Guide button which allows user to quickly access their music, digital movies, and game libraries. They can access Xbox live to contact their friends, or customize their gaming experiences. Also included in the controller is a port for a headset. Since the dawn of all controllers, the standard Xbox 360 controller ranks among many users as the best one ever made.

* Adapters

Wireless network adapters let you configure your Xbox 360 system to your home wireless network to quickly get online and into the game. These adapters are easily configured, seamlessly synchronizing with the Xbox 360 system. Once connected, you can easily transfer videos and music to your system from your Media Center PC, chat with friends, play games via Xbox Live and more, all without the clutter of wires.

* Batteries & Charge Kits

Rechargeable battery packs and charge kits are recommended for use with wireless controllers. With these packs, you rarely need to buy batteries. With a normal rechargeable life, the packs last a year or two and can be charged while the unit is being used. While the Xbox 360 off, the unit can simply be charged from your computer’s USB port.

* Hard Drives

By downloading content to your Xbox 360 hard drive, you can expand your Xbox 360 experience. Hard drives are great because they let you save game demos, custom soundtracks from your music collections and, of course, save your games. Xbox 360 hard drives also let you play a variety of original Xbox 360 games. They even come with an Xbox Live Arcade game, music and videos pre-loaded.

* Headsets

A wide variety of different Xbox 360 headsets are now available which work in harmony with your Xbox 360 system. These headsets are available in a number of styles: over-the-ear, earbud headset…even wirless headsets are now available. And as you’d expect, each style is flexible to meet the specific needs and requirements of every Xbox 360 gamer. As you’d imagine, you will get enhanced clarity and performance from these stylish headphones, along with comfort and ergonomic design. Included in each headset is state-of-the-art audio technology that will provide you with years of clear, clean and crisp reception and audio delivery.

* Remotes

Remotes for the Xbox 360 range from the Universal Media Remote to the Light Up Wireless Remote to the Intelligent Report, among an assortment of others. The Universal Media Remote, for example, functions as an integrated control center for the entire Xbox 360 experience, all with the touch of a single button. You can play DVD movies and music, control your TV and Media Center PC, all with this single remote. The Intelligent Remote 360, on the other hand, is a self-programming remote that learns the functions for other remotes.

* Faceplates & Skins

Faceplates and console skins are sticker graphics that allow the Xbox 360 gamer to customize their hardware components towards their own personality traits and characteristics. The typical faceplate and skin designs range from the psychedelic to iconic representations of favorite Xbox 360 games like Halo and Guitar Hero II.

* Cables & Wiring

Enhance your Xbox 360 gaming experience with the right cables and wiring. By upgrading your cables if/when you upgrade your television, you can retain the sharp, crisp details you’ve come to enjoy from your Xbox 360 system. If you were to convert from a CRT television to a 60-inch plasma, for example, you could lose a tremendous amount of resolution in the process without having the right cables. Upgrade to Xbox 360 VGA HD AV cables, and you will quickly see that game images became crisp and intense. The details will appear sharper; fonts displayed during a game character’s conversations will become significantly clearer and more legible. With the right cables, you will certainly notice the quality difference you get through something as basic and fundamental upgrading the wiring.

Hardly a generic, one-size-fits-all system, the Xbox 360 gaming platform is a highly sophisticated, multi-component device. The system allows gamers to personalize their game play based on their style, preferences and personal performance requirements. The ability to select among these features makes the Xbox 360 platform one of the most flexible, exciting and technically-advanced gaming systems available today.

The Xbox 360 Elite has the capability of being connected to Xbox Live giving the player all the advantages of that system as well.  Xbox Live enables players to connect to the internet and play games live with other players from everywhere on the globe.

Best Value with the Xbox 360 Core

January 21, 2009 by admin · Comment
Filed under: Xbox360 News

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 video game console system is the most popular next generation console. It has the best hardware, best features, and best games out there today. However, some of this success might be attributed to the options that Microsoft gave gamers when they released multiple version of the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 Premium had many features that some gamers might find appealing, while other users will be perfectly happy with the Xbox 360 Core (also called the Arcade version now).

Money Saver

The Xbox 360 Core costs a lot less than the Premium version – nearly $200 less than the highest end version available! $280 is a lot more appealing to many people than $450, but there are some differences that consumers should be aware of before making their decision on which version to purchase. Firstly, the Xbox 360 Core comes with all the basic functionality that anyone would expect to find with a video game console – the ability to play Xbox 360 game titles of course. If that’s all you want from a console, then the Xbox 360 Core is perfect for you.

However, the Xbox 360 Elite comes with much more internal memory than the Xbox 360 Core. The Elite has a 120 Gb hard drive while the Core only has 256 Mb of internal memory. Also, the Elite comes in a black chassis instead of a white one, and it comes with a network cable and headset. Not only that, but the Core only has a standard television cable, and the Elite comes with an HDMI cable. If you’re looking for additional functionality beyond the ability to play Xbox 360 games, then the Elite is probably the right choice for you, although you should also understand that you can buy an external hard drive separately for your Xbox 360, and you can also buy an HDMI cable if you need one.

If you’re looking to save nearly $200 on your game console while still keeping all the basic functionality required to play all Xbox 360 games, then the Core is right for you. However, if you want additional functionality, then you may want to try out the Elite. In any case, you can buy the additions separately for the Core. You can buy the wireless adapter, headset, HDMI cable, and network cable by themselves, perfect if you don’t necessarily want all of them. You can also buy an external hard drive that you can take with you. For the best value, check out the Xbox 360 Core.

A Better Game with the Xbox 360 Controller

January 10, 2009 by admin · Comment
Filed under: Xbox360 News

When it comes to how well you perform while playing a game, nothing is more critical than the controller you’re using. PC gamers use keyboards and mice, but console players use the traditional controller. This handy little accessory has always been great for platformers and action games, but it’s been perceived to be weaker for RTS and shooter games. Microsoft broke this gaming barrier years ago with their original Xbox, which used a controller that players found intuitive and easy for playing games like the blockbuster Halo, the start of one of the most popular shooter games of all time. Microsoft further improved upon their design with the Xbox 360 controller.

Wireless Speed

The original Xbox controller was wireless, and players had limited (relatively) freedom, being forced to stick near their console and facing someone tripping over the cords. On the other hand, the Xbox 360 controller is available as a standard wireless model, giving players the freedom to move around and quickly switch controllers between players. The only downside is that the controller uses batteries instead of supplying power through the cord, and so the controllers won’t last forever without a recharge. However, the batteries last quite some time without needing to be replaced. Under such circumstances, most people prefer the wireless Xbox 360 controller.

However, you can always opt to get the wired version for yourself. This way, you’ll never need to recharge or replace the batteries, and you have an instant connection between the the controller and the console. While wireless advancements in recent years have made the connection less prone to interference and faster overall, you may want to go with the wired controller if you absolutely require that your actions are instantly responsive on screen to react with unparalleled speed. However, the wireless Xbox 360 controller is reportedly nearly as good by pro and casual gamers alike.

Another great reason to pick up a wireless Xbox 360 controller is to not get confused by the tangle of wires when your friends come over. This makes keeping track of who has which controller (such as player one, two, etc.) much easier because there won’t be a mess of wires confusing you. Also, many people with large screens or projectors prefer the wireless controllers because they can sit further back at the optimum viewing distance from their screen, making the games all the more enjoyable. Depending on your play style, you’ll want to choose which Xbox 360 controller is right for you.
